The 1099 OS: Managing Time, Talent, & Treasure (Pillar 3)
The CEO and the Janitor
Here is the hard truth about being a 1099 entrepreneur: You are the CEO, the VP of Sales, and the Janitor.
Because you wear every hat, you often treat your resources as if they are infinite. You stay up until 2:00 AM tweaking a website (wasting Time). You try to do your own taxes despite being bad at math (misusing Talent). You buy software you don’t need (wasting Treasure).
Stewardship of the “Finite Three”
Pillar 3: Resources is about stewardship. It is recognizing that you have finite amounts of energy and hours.
In Chapter 6 of Mentally Awake, we break this down:
- Time (Non-renewable): Every hour you spend on $15/hour admin work is an hour you stole from your $150/hour consulting rate.
- Talent (Skills): Double down on what makes you money. If you are a closer, spend your time closing. If you are a creator, spend your time creating. Delegate the rest.
- Treasure (Financials): Cash flow is oxygen. You must manage your finances with the rigor of a CFO.
Sleep is a Business Strategy
The “Hustle Culture” tells you to sleep when you’re dead. The Mentally Awake OS tells you to sleep tonight so you can be sharp for your negotiation tomorrow. Protect your assets.
